Brass dial shelf clock, 1780-1790.

Mahogany shelf clock with a molded arch pediment, pierced fretwork and three brass urn-and-flame finials on plain plinths. Top section with inlaid decoration outlining door, a glazed door with an astragal top, and cove and ovolo moldings at the top. Bottom section with fluted quarter columns with brass capitals and bases at the front corners, a rectangular door with an inlaid rectangle and an ovolo molded edge, and ogee molding at the bottom. Supported on ogee bracket feet. Engraved dial with roman hour numerals and arabic minute numerals, engraved flowers and vines in the spandrels and lunette, and the inscription "Danl Balch Newbury Port" in the lunette. Inside the chapter ring there is engraved ornament. Time only mechanism. Eight day movement.
